Here we observe EGRET, the final instrument to be placed on the observatory, being installed at the back of the satellite. They were a few days late in arriving from the Goddard Space Flight Center, due to a rather large snowstorm in the Texas Panhandle. However, with nearly 1.5 years still before launch, they arrived at TRW in plenty of time. The large rectangular boxes at the back of the satellite are the two Modular Power Supplies for the spacecraft, responsible for maintaining proper power levels to the entire observatory. BATSE modules B4 (left) and B6 (right) can be easily seen atop the GRO.
