Before launch, most of the ground crew's concern regarding deployment of the spacecraft centered around the solar panels. After all, they had to unfold, rotate, and charge the batteries, or we'd not be able to have power on the spacecraft. As it turned out, the solar panels deployed beautifully, and are working fantastic. Here we see them pointing into the Sun to charge the batteries prior to release. It's about 80 feet from the tip of one solar panel to the tip of the other. Here we see EGRET (the bottom silver dome) and COMPTEL (the silver dome at the top) as well as BATSE modules B4 and B6. Jay Apt or Jerry Ross is working at the space station hardware development area of the bay.
