The satellite is lifted out of the bay of the orbiter. The high-gain antenna is folded underneath the spacecraft; you can see it as the white oval shape at the bottom of the satellite. Watching this action on TV from the control room at the Goddard Space Flight Center was exciting, especially when the antenna became stuck. That's the kind of excitement you'd rather not have...
