This is a high-fidelity model of a BATSE detector, known as the "Structural Test Article." When building spacecraft, hardware, or other experiments for flight, it is customary to build a model such as this to determine things such as whether the design is rigorous enough for space flight, if the interfaces are designed correctly, and so forth, without actually using the actual (and expensive) piece of flight hardware. Notice that this model only has one radiator panel, and has no wiring at all attached to the high voltage power unit box (box with the red and yellow caps at the center).
